Children have a unique visual awareness and a natural excitement about using photography to capture the world around them. This integral art program is designed to foster appreciation of the arts, help young artists blossom their creativity, develop aesthetic values, intuition and critical thinking. Through projects and fun experiments, the goal is to provide a nurturing atmosphere for youngsters to build confidence while expressing themselves, develop skills, while having fun.
Students will learn the fundamentals of black & white and digital photography, build their own pinhole camera, create sun prints (cyanotypes) and use their five senses as inspiration for documenting with their cameras. The program will introduce students to landmarks of the visual arts.
By the end of the course, students will have developed a portfolio of prints and an artist statement. The course will culminate in a final presentation for family and friends.
